Duval Plumbing Pros is a second-generation family plumbing company. Owner Kevin Marsh took over from his father in 2015, inheriting a team of 8 licensed plumbers, a fleet of 6 service vans, and a customer base built entirely on the Yellow Pages, yard signs, and church bulletin ads. Kevin's father had tried "the internet thing" once in 2012 with a basic GoDaddy website; it generated exactly one call in three years.
By 2024, the landscape had shifted entirely. Homeowners no longer opened the Yellow Pages when a pipe burst at 2 AM. They grabbed their phone and searched "emergency plumber near me." Duval Plumbing wasn't anywhere in those results. The top three positions were occupied by competitors who had invested in SEO years ago, plus a rotating cast of Google Ads from national plumbing franchises.
Kevin had tried Google Ads directly for 18 months, spending $3,500/month with a contractor who "managed" the account (which meant setting it up and never touching it again). The ads generated clicks, but the cost per lead was $180 and climbing, and 40% of calls were outside their service area or for services they didn't offer. The ROI was negative when factoring in the management fees.
Jacksonville's plumbing market presents a unique SEO challenge: the city covers 875 square miles with dramatically different housing stock across neighborhoods. Older homes in Springfield and Riverside have galvanized and cast-iron pipes. Mandarin and Southside subdivisions from the 1990s have polybutylene plumbing. New construction in Nocatee and Durbin Crossing has modern PEX. A plumber who doesn't address these neighborhood-specific issues in their content misses the actual search behavior of Jacksonville homeowners.
Our approach was built on one core principle: become the most useful plumbing resource in Jacksonville for homeowners who need answers right now. Every piece of content, every optimization, every review response was designed to capture the homeowner at the moment of highest need.
Kevin's GBP was barely claimed, with 3 photos (all blurry van shots), no business description, wrong service hours, and 7 reviews (two of which were from employees). We rebuilt it from scratch: 120+ professional photos including before/after project shots, team photos, branded van fleet, and active job site images. We wrote a keyword-optimized business description, added all 26 service categories, configured the service area to cover specific Jacksonville zip codes, and implemented Google Posts three times per week showing completed jobs with before/after photos and brief descriptions of the work performed.
The old website had a single "Services" page listing everything in bullet points. We created 18 individual service pages, each targeting specific high-intent keywords: "Drain Cleaning Jacksonville," "Water Heater Installation Jacksonville FL," "Sewer Line Repair Jacksonville," "Tankless Water Heater Jacksonville," "Emergency Plumber Jacksonville," "Repiping Jacksonville," and more. Each page was 1,200-1,800 words with detailed descriptions of the service, common causes of the problem in Jacksonville homes, pricing transparency (range estimates), and schema markup for Service and LocalBusiness types. We also created dedicated pages for emergency services with prominent click-to-call buttons optimized for mobile.
We built 15 neighborhood-specific pages covering the areas where Duval Plumbing operates: Northside, Westside, Arlington, Springfield, Murray Hill, Riverside, San Marco, Mandarin, Southside, Baymeadows, the Beaches, San Jose, Ortega, Ponte Vedra, and Nocatee. Each page referenced the specific plumbing challenges common in that neighborhood's housing stock: "Many Arlington homes built between 1985-1995 have polybutylene pipes that are prone to failure. Our team has repiped over 200 Arlington homes with modern PEX systems." This local specificity gave each page content that national competitors simply cannot replicate.
We implemented a two-step review capture process. After every completed job, the technician handed the customer a branded card with a QR code and texted a review link from the company's SMS platform within 30 minutes of job completion. The key innovation was timing: we found that review requests sent within 30 minutes of service completion had a 62% response rate, versus 18% for next-day requests. We also trained technicians to verbally ask, "Would you mind sharing your experience on Google? It really helps family businesses like ours." Kevin's team went from 7 reviews to 340+ reviews in 10 months, with a steady 4.9★ average.
We submitted consistent NAP data to 65 local and industry-specific directories: HomeAdvisor, Angi, BBB, Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce, plumbing industry directories, and neighborhood-specific business listings. We implemented proper technical SEO including schema markup, XML sitemaps, Core Web Vitals optimization (the old site scored 12 on mobile PageSpeed; the new site scores 94), and mobile-first design with prominent click-to-call functionality. We also secured the Google Guaranteed badge through the Local Services Ads program, adding the green verification checkmark to their listing.

My dad built this business on handshakes and yard signs. I was about to lose it because I couldn't figure out the internet. Now we have more work than we can handle, and I just hired two more plumbers to keep up. The best part? These customers already trust us when they call because they've read our reviews and seen our work. My dad can't believe it. Honestly, neither can I.
The transformation went beyond call volume. The quality of calls improved dramatically. Because the service pages described specific problems and pricing ranges, callers were pre-qualified. They knew what the issue likely was, had a general sense of cost, and were ready to book. No-show rates dropped from 15% to 3%, and average ticket size increased 28% because customers who found Duval Plumbing through detailed content were more likely to approve recommended additional work. Kevin added two plumbers, bought two new vans, and is planning to open a satellite office in St. Augustine.
We'll analyze your local visibility and show you exactly how many service calls you're missing every month.
