Jacksonville is the logistics capital of the Southeast. JAXPORT handles over 1.3 million TEUs annually. CSX and Norfolk Southern maintain major rail hubs. The Cecil Commerce Center is one of the largest industrial parks in the country. More than 180 logistics, freight, and transportation companies operate in the Jacksonville metropolitan area.

And yet, when a manufacturer, importer, or distributor searches for "freight forwarding Jacksonville" or "warehouse space Jacksonville FL," they find a nearly empty landscape. Most of these searches return results dominated by national brokerages, generic directory listings, and companies in other cities.

We audited the web presence of ~68 logistics and transportation companies operating in the Jacksonville metro area. The results were striking: roughly 82% had what we would classify as an inadequate or nonexistent online presence.

What "Invisible" Actually Means

When we say roughly 82% of Jacksonville logistics companies are "invisible," we are using a specific definition. A company was classified as invisible if it met two or more of the following criteria:

Of the ~68 companies audited, 56 met two or more of these criteria. Fourteen companies had no website at all, relying entirely on word-of-mouth and industry directories like FreightQuote and DAT. Another 19 had websites that consisted of a single homepage with a phone number and email address, with no additional pages, no content, and no optimization.

Why This Matters Now

The logistics industry has traditionally operated on relationships. A trucking company does not need a website when 90% of its business comes from three brokers who have been working together for years. A warehouse operator does not need search visibility when they have a waiting list for space.

But this dynamic is changing, and it is changing fast. Three forces are converging to make web presence a competitive necessity for logistics companies in Jacksonville:

1. Buyer Behavior Is Shifting

A 2025 survey by Transport Topics found that 67% of logistics buyers under 40 begin their vendor search online. As millennials move into decision-making roles at manufacturing and distribution companies, the "handshake and a phone call" model is being supplemented, and in some cases replaced, by online research. The companies that do not appear in that research do not make the shortlist.

2. JAXPORT Growth Is Bringing New Entrants

JAXPORT's expansion, including the deepening of the harbor channel to 47 feet to accommodate larger container vessels, is attracting new importers and manufacturers to the region. These newcomers do not have existing logistics relationships in Jacksonville. When a new automotive parts importer establishes operations near the port, their first step in finding a local freight forwarder or warehouse partner is a Google search. If your company does not appear, you are handing that business to whichever competitor does.

3. National Competitors Are Moving In

XPO Logistics, C.H. Robinson, and other national players have strong digital presence. They rank for Jacksonville-specific terms even though their Jacksonville operations may be smaller than your company. A potential client searching "3PL provider Jacksonville" will find these national brands first, not because they are better, but because they have invested in search visibility and local companies have not.

The Opportunity Is Enormous

Here is the counterpoint to the bleak auditing results: the low competition in logistics search represents one of the biggest SEO opportunities in any Jacksonville industry sector.

High-Value Logistics Keywords with Low Competition

  • "Freight forwarding Jacksonville FL". 480 monthly searches, Keyword Difficulty: 8/100
  • "Warehouse space Jacksonville": 720 monthly searches, KD: 12/100
  • "3PL provider Jacksonville": 320 monthly searches, KD: 5/100
  • "Customs broker Jacksonville port": 210 monthly searches, KD: 3/100
  • "Cold storage warehouse Jacksonville FL": 170 monthly searches, KD: 2/100
  • "Drayage services JAXPORT": 140 monthly searches, KD: 1/100

To put these keyword difficulty scores in perspective: in most industries, achieving a first-page ranking for a keyword with a difficulty of 8 takes three to six months of focused effort. In logistics, we have seen clients achieve first-page rankings in as little as six weeks because there is simply so little competition.

The financial calculus is straightforward. A single warehousing contract in Jacksonville can generate $200,000 or more in annual revenue. A single freight forwarding relationship can be worth $50,000 to $500,000 per year. If your website ranks for "warehouse space Jacksonville" and captures even 5% of the 720 monthly searchers, you are generating 36 qualified leads per month. Convert 10% of those, and you are adding 3 to 4 new clients monthly from a channel that costs virtually nothing after the initial investment.

What the Top 18% Are Doing Right

The 12 companies in our audit that had visible web presences shared several characteristics:

Notably, none of the 12 visible companies had what we would consider a sophisticated SEO strategy. They were simply doing the basics that their competitors were ignoring entirely. This underscores the opportunity: in the Jacksonville logistics sector, "showing up" is currently enough to win.

In an industry where roughly 82% of your competitors are invisible online, the bar for standing out is remarkably low. The question is not whether you can afford to invest in search visibility. It is whether you can afford to remain invisible while your market shifts around you.
